"Success grows on the tree of persistence."

- Japanese Proverb

Christina Rabe

Christina is from an African country where people live in poverty surviving only day by day, and where unemployment is the most serious problem affecting young people. Her desire for a new life encouraged her to begin a new adventure as an au pair in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She dreamed of discovering new horizons, however she ended up in an unfortunate situation that lasted two and a half years.

She was abused and exploited for a year by her employer – to such an extreme point that she started to believe she was just an object destined to satisfy the needs of her boss. She experienced pain, sickness, and dire helplessness but was restrained by fear and confusion. She could not defend herself nor felt she had the right to a life of her own as the idea to leave the situation did not enter her mind.

During this time, she was enslaved by the chains of modern slavery, both physically and psychologically – intimidation, manipulation, emotional blackmail. Her humanity was taken from her. The suffering of modern slaves may be invisible, but it is closer than we think.

There is good news. Christina is now living a normal life. She is taking a stand to create public awareness by bringing attention to her life story and using it to give other victims hope and help for change in their lives.

Christina is a volunteer for the Human Rights Organizations. She is passionate about helping poor, abused women and under privileged children. She aims to reach out to wherever needed and help bring a positive change in people’s lives in whatever way she can contribute
