Africa Yoga Project is an organization dedicated to delivering all that yoga has to offer to the diverse communities of East Africa. The mission of Africa Yoga Project (AYP) is to educate, empower, elevate and employ lives from East Africa through the power of yoga. The organization was founded in 2007 and has since then grown extraordinary!
Today Africa Yoga Project has 71 inspiring yoga teachers from Nairobi empowering over 250,000 Kenyans a year through yoga by offering 300 free community outreach classes a week in youth groups (football, girl’s empowerment groups, arts groups), schools, orphanages, hospitals, jails, detention centers, special needs schools, (deaf, blind and autistic), HIV/AIDS support groups, rural masai villages and many more locations.
AYP’s goal is to educate and employ over 200 teachers by 2015!
The organization also offers daily vinyasa and Baptiste Yoga classes at it’s Shine Center, an education and empowerment center, in Nairobi, Kenya. The Africa Yoga Project teachers travel around East Africa as well to expand the mission of educating, empowering and elevating the lives of African youth.
For yoga teachers in other parts of the world, Africa Yoga Project provides opportunities for members of the global yoga community to participate and contribute. This can be by organizing yoga donation classes in one’s own community, participate in one of it’s service trips - Seva Safari, or apply to become an ambassador and volunteer as a yoga teacher in Africa.
