Conscious Christmas gifts

By Sharda ten Hove on 20 December 2014

Before you run off to the store and buy gifts that will make others happy for a short moment, give this list a read. These gifts will last much longer as they carry joy and warm heartedness in them. Make this Christmas extra special by buying a gift that will make more than one happy!

For all animal lovers please find a selection of websites who offer great gifts that support animal welfare:

Gifts that support homeless people on the streets of London:

In winter we all need an extra boost. Vitamin supplements can help! The brand Viridian generates significant funds for children’s and environmental charities. So you are not only benefiting your own health, but also helping benefit the lives of others.

By donating a small amount to these organizations, you give children in less-developed countries a better future:

Deenabandhu Home
works towards the education and rehabilitation of orphan, destitute and estranged children in the region of Chamarajnagar, India.
Deenabandhu is one of the projects that www.yogagivesback.org is supporting. Yoga Gives Back is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds in order to alleviate poverty in India. Through donation based yoga classes they help the poorest in the country.

Amcha Ghar is a home for girls located in Mumbai, India,  dedicated to support helpless female children. They work with rejected children, orphans who do not know their origin, children of commercial sex workers, children abused by their relatives, children who have witnessed the suicide of family members, and children deserted due to poverty and hardship.

Learning Space Foundation offers education to tribal village children in the district of Thane, India.
Girls are not particularly encouraged in the villages by families to study beyond 12 years in school as families only want to get them married off and are not sure if their higher study will make it easier to marry them or find a suitable partner. Currently LSF is looking for financial support for 5 girls who were chosen out of 20 who are determined to follow their studies till the end of their course. To enable these girls to continue their schooling requires £55 or $85 per month. Any donation will help!

And last but certainly not least you can give someone the DVD or online viewing of the documentary Cowspiracy. The documentary that everyone should watch, whether you care about animals, the future of your children, global warming or any other social or environmental issue.

Make this Christmas a special one, for yourself and for others.

Merry Christmas!
