Masala Puri is a famous chat (Indian snack) in South India. In India chats are sold on the streets. A blend of various spices with a hint of mint is served on layers of deep fried flattened bread. In 2010 I moved to USA after my marriage. I started missing my favorite dish and started looking for a good recipe. I like to share this with you and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!
Serves 4
Category - Appetizers
Put half the quantity of green peas and rest of the ingredients in a blender, blend it into a smooth paste by adding bits of water.
In a thick bottom vessel pour the mixture and boil till you see bubbles. At this time add about half a cup of water and add the remaining peas to the mixture. Boil the masala till it thickens (takes about 10 mins). The Masala is ready. (Option: add boiled mashed potatoes in the Masala mix)
Crush a few puris onto a plate and pour the masala over them. You can add a pinch of red chili powder, top it with some chopped onions and coriander leaves. You can also add a hint of lime.
Happy eating Masala Puri, Enjoy!
