In between September and January it’s the season for the Pomegranate, a superfood. In many cultures this fruit is the symbol for health, fertility and longevity. The red apple formed fruit takes some time to be unseeded but is guaranteed worth your wile.
The pomegranate is loaded with flavonoids (enhances power of vit. C, protect cells from oxygen damage, help protect blood vessels, work anti-inflammatory) and polyphenols (high anti-oxidant works preventive in cardiovascular diseases, cancers, osteoporosis and diabetes). Other than this, pomegranate is a high source of many other anti-oxidants.
According to Ayurveda a pregnant woman should eat Pomegranate during the second trimester of the pregnancy since the fruit is very beneficial for the foetus.
A unique only to be found in the pomegranate anti-oxidant is the Punicalagins - an antioxidant that has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It neutralizes free radicals (free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that can damage the body’s cells).
This anti-oxidant also stimulate levels of serotonin and can thereby help in depression.
