Spinach Booster Smoothie

By Sharda ten Hove on 24 August 2012

This powerful veggie smoothie will give you the perfect boost to start your day! It contains fresh spinach, an absolute power food: this leafy green is an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, manganese, magnesium, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6. It is a great source of protein, phosphorus, zinc, dietary fiber, and copper. Besides all of this, it is a good source of selenium, niacin, and omega-3 fatty acids. Spinach is packed with at least 13 different flavonoid compounds which act as anti-cancer substances. The high levels of iron in spinach give you loads of energy since iron carries oxygen to all your body cells. Basically everything your body needs can be found in spinach. You can eat it raw, like in this smoothie, or as a salad, cooked or steamed. Please be careful and try to buy your spinach organic as spinach is one of the high pesticide-containing foods!

This green veggie smoothie contains apple for some fresh sweetness, and ginger and turmeric for their cleansing benefits.
You can buy turmeric at your whole food store or asian markets. Turmeric is a powerful anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is a cancer fighter, can help prevent breast cancer, and additionally be protective against diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Plus, it is a natural liver detoxifier and works as a stress reliever. You can add fresh turmeric or use the powder form.

To make this smoothie you will need a juicer. This is an investment as good juicers are not cheap but you will benefit from it for years!

How to make this Green Booster:

Wash the vegetables and apple.
Cut off the stem ends of the carrots.
Take out the inside of the bell pepper.
Add all veggies, apple, turmeric and ginger in your juicer, make sure not to start or finish with the turmeric as it will turn the filter of your juicer yellow.

Enjoy and drink immediately as it is full of Prana (life-energy) when it is freshly juiced.
