Spinal Meditation technique to enhance the flow of Prana

By Sharda ten Hove on 08 August 2012

There are all sorts of ways to get in your spine, one of them is a meditation technique that will stimulate the flow of Prana (Life energy) which will help you feel energetic and is a perfect way to start the day.

Sit comfortably with crossed legs or on your knees and start a few rounds of conscious slow breaths. Inhalation through the nose and exhalation through the nose.
With every exhalation let go of your thoughts, relax your shoulders and sitting bones.
Then bring your awareness to the base of your spine (location of your First Chakra: Muladhara). On your inhalation slowly follow your spine all the way up to the crown of your head (the location of your Seventh Chakra: Sahasrara). Once you reach the crown of your head, maintain your attention on that spot while holding your breath for a short moment and then exhale bringing all the energy down again. The downward energy on the exhalation brings you back to your First Chakra and connects you with the earth, it represents your self on a personal level. The upward energy on the inhalation brings you in contact with spirituality, what is not perceived with the eye and represents the Self on the Collective Consciousness (also known as the Infinite Self).

Whether you are into chakras or consciousness does not matter. Just try to focus on the base of the spine and follow your spine up to the crown of the head and notice the benefits.
